Mission
EduMaKate partners with high school students from underserved neighborhoods in New York City and empowers them by preparing them for life after high school. We offer college and career readiness programs as well as financial literacy courses in several settings that engage the students in a variety of ways. We teach students skills and provide opportunities and experiences that focus on the path to college and future career goals.
Our career-oriented workplace events, school-based motivational workshops, tools for successfully navigating the college application process, peer-mentoring programs and assistance in career placement are all aspects of Edumakate that our students have appreciated. The career-based workshops, motivational seminars, and educational games engage and excite students about topics that are vital for their future success. We also host events in different venues such as law firms, hospitals, banks, educational establishments and various business settings where the students get a chance to interact firsthand with professionals and experts in their respective fields.
Some high school students face many challenges and as a result, do not pursue higher education. Our goal is to inspire and provide them and their peers with the necessary resources to obtain a college degree and continue to become industry professionals. Our focus is to prepare all students, especially those from economically underprivileged backgrounds for realization and success in college, thus, primarily to increase graduation rates, and improve readiness for a career they want to pursue. Students who have participated in our program love it and the courses broaden their perspective about the opportunities they have available to them after high school encourage them to pursue what their passionate about and to excel.
EduMaKate develops unique programs for each high school and its students. We work in conjunction with the high school administrators and faculty to design specific workshops and events to enhance the students’ core curriculum. All the events hosted by EduMaKate are provided at no cost for the school or its students.
